Trees New York (TreesNY) is an environmental and urban forestry nonprofit organization. Our mission is to plant, preserve and protect New York City’s urban forest through education, active citizen participation and advocacy. TreesNY was founded in the 1970’s as a volunteer response to New York City’s devastating cutbacks in forestry and tree-related community services.

TreesNY’s adult and youth education and training programs encourage volunteer stewardship of neighborhood environmental resources. TreesNY also works with local community-based organizations and city, state and federal agencies to care for NYC street trees. The major focus of TreesNY’s activities is to work with NYC residents to improve their quality of life through tree-related endeavors. TreesNY’s current programs include the Citizen Pruner Tree Care Course, Greening the Bronx Reforestation Project, Youth Environmental Literacy, Young Urban Forester, Arborist Job Training and Asian Longhorned Beetle Hotline & Invasive Species Workshops.

TreesNY has 35 years of experience in large-scale tree planting projects, tree care management and consulting and stewardship training projects to teach members of NYC’s communities to care for the urban forest. Since its founding, TreesNY has trained over 11,000 adults and 4,500 youth in tree care and stewardship. Since 2005, TreesNY has planted over 2,500 trees in underserved communities throughout New York City. For over three decades, TreesNY has been at the forefront of environmental advocacy in New York City.
